Job Summary:
1. Health Screening Activities and Preparation for Appointment with Prescriber
• Makes phone contact with consumers to set/and remind them of appointments with prescribers
• Prepares consumer / prescriber rooms
• Greets consumers, retrieves any paperwork requested by the prescriber
• Prepares consumer for appointment with prescriber by:
~ Explains routine clinic procedures and updates medical record to reflect changes in medications and / or dosages for all prescribed medications taken by the consumer
~ Reviews medical consents to ensure they are up-to-date and complete
~ Obtains and records vital signs and height / weight measurements
~ Ensures lab reports are available in ECR for review.
~ Determines if AIMS evaluation is due, if appropriate.
~ Facilitates consumer’s completion of screening tools, if appropriate (i.e. Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, etc).
• Completes follow-up activities following the appointment with the prescriber:
~ Obtains consents for medication, if appropriate
~ Educates consumers about medication benefits and resources available in the community
~ Assists consumer in scheduling of next appointment
~ Assists consumer with completion of medication assistance application forms, if appropriate

2. Maintenance of Health Clinic Supplies
• Inventories health clinic supplies to ensure appropriate supplies are available
• Receives health clinic supply orders and reviews contents to ensure that order has been filled in full and accurately
• Stocks supplies in the health clinic so as to allow for the most efficient access and use by Health Services Team members

3. Provides Support to Health Services Team
• Completes additional tasks, duties, or projects as assigned and under the direction of the Health Services Team
• Provides medications to consumers as prepared by a licensed medical professional
• Performs first aid and CPR as needed
• Supports and implements agency infection control practices
• Answers telephones as directed
• Handles / types team correspondence and transcriptions as needed
• Completes insurance forms
• Ensures accurate basis for billing for services provided by updating Scheduler, if necessary, to reflect the actual time spent by the prescriber with the consumer. This will help to ensure that multiple services are not billed for the same time period if the consumer has additional consecutive appointments in the Agency on the same date.
• Schedules additional consumers as directed by the Health Services Team

Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing support to the Health Services Team. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the HST Office Manager, rather than as an independent practitioner. Responsibilities include: coordination of appointments for psychiatric evaluations and medication reviews; preparing the consumer for their meeting with the prescriber, obtains and documents the consumer’s vital signs, height, weight, and other screening tools as directed; accompanies prescribers to consumer’s personal homes as needed; maintains stock supplies for health clinic; assists consumers in completion of medication assistance application forms; schedules and makes reminder phone calls to consumers regarding their appointments; manages the prescribers schedules; provides injections to consumers as allowed within the parameters of their certification within Michigan; and completes other duties, tasks, and projects as directed by the HST Office Manager and other members of the team. Services will be provided on and off the program site. The position incumbent must be self-directed and able to function as a team player. The position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend hours.

Job Qualifications:
1. Must have completed an accredited Medical Assistant training program and have obtained certification/registration or have training and/or experience working in a health related field.

2. Preferred candidates will have experience in an outpatient health clinic setting. Experience in a psychiatric setting is preferred.

3. Possesses the ability to take vital signs including blood pressure and pulse readings.

4. Good customer services skills

5. Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide own transportation to and from meetings and activities at varying work locations including all agency locations in Lake, Mason, and Oceana Counties.

6. Maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR.

7. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders are valued.
